I was delighted to be asked whether I’d be up for contributing to a slot on The Briefing programme about the American Ornithological Society’s decision to rename the 80 or so US birds which have were named after people. While it have very limited effect on birdwatchers in the British Isles, it’s an interesting development. The most familiar British bird named after a bloke is the Cetti’s Warbler which is pictured here, but that’s very much a Eurasian species.
