As a first time author, I realise from talking to other authors how lucky I am to be working with such a communicative, creative and pro-active marketing team at Flint Books. It is inevitable, thought, that however much book promotion you’ve done as an author, you’ll always feel you could have done more. To try and counter that I’m going to take stock at intervals, stop to thank the marketing team at Flint Books, and give myself a pat on the back.

This is what I’ve been doing over the first 3 months of the tour:

Bookshop events

  • Book launch at Stanfords in Covent Garden, London
  • Author event at Word on the Street in Ashtead, Surrey
  • Author event at Griffin Books in Penarth, South Wales
  • Author event at Books on the Rise in Richmond, London

Other in-person events

  • Pavement-plant walk and book signing at Books in the Park Festival, Beckenham, London
  • Wild Pavements urban nature talk, workshop and book signing at the Natural History Museum
  • Writing workshop and book signing at Bath Literature Festival

Online talks, podcasts, interviews and radio:

  • Webinar for the Natural History Museum’s Urban Nature Network
  • Webinar for University of West of England’s science communication network
  • David Lindo’s In Conservation series
  • BBC Radio London live interview with Robert Elms
  • BBC Countryfile Plodcast with Fergus Collins
  • Recorded episode of the Water Book Club with Jenni Ratcliffe, due for publication in late May

Magazine features

  • The Nature of our Cities in Bird Watching Magazine
  • Pavement Plants: Streets like a Jungle in The Big Issue
  • Submitted a feature for a wide-circulation gardening magazine, due to be published this summer.

That doesn’t look too shabby does it? I’m so grateful to all the people who have supported me in getting Wild Pavements out there. And I’ve learnt a great deal, including how important it is to work in partnership with bookshops who are confident putting on author events and already have a wide network of contacts.

And there’s lots more to come.
